Akimbo is a band of quiet aspirations. Founded from within the buzz of the hectic North London landscape, this project plays with the role of silence and dynamics in making music. Not to say that their music is loud and soft. Rather it’s gentle, thoughtful, rough-around-the-edges, layered and made to sound beautiful, when it can be.
Composed of a guitar and vocal duo, Pedro Velasco and Nell Greco try not to pay too much attention to the traditional ‘roles’ and expectations of their parts. They look for the limitations of their instruments, blur lines and listen intently for what each other is doing. And they care about how well they’re sharing their craft with their audience.
The aim is to be honest, to look after the music and to have fun.
